All Mountain Carve

For people who love to go fast in silky corduroy conditions, these skis initiate turns lightning-quick and hold an edge at the highest speeds.

4FRNT STL ($449/$649)

145, 167, 177, 183 (112/82/104 at 177 cm, 22.5-metre radius)

Another ski in 4FRNT’s continuing line of pro models, the STL is the preferred stick of rail master Steele Spence. That being said, this ski is set up to ski the whole park and the groomers as well.

Armada El Rey ($575)

157, 164, 171, 178, 185 (123/89/115 at 178 cm, 19.3-metre radius)

An affordable all-mountain ski for the adults, the El Rey is proof of Armada’s growing empire of ski models. A lighter core and cap make it easier to turn but maintain the strength to take a beating in the park.

Atomic Metron B5i ($1,449.99 with bindings)

152, 162, 172 (131/76/115 at 162 cm, 11-metre radius)

Atomic uses its vast race experience in the design of this all-mountain carving tool. B5 technology functions like shock absorbers to suck up those nasty grooming mistakes.

Dynastar Mythic Rider ($1,099.99 with bindings)

165, 172, 178, 184 (122/88/110 at 178 cm, 21-metre radius)

The Mythic Rider is as comfortable in deep powder as it is on the piste. Comes with wide freeride sidecuts and PX 12 bindings.

Elan Magfire 14 ($1,200)

152, 160, 168, 176, 184 (126/82/109 at 176 cm, 17.2-metre radius)

The Fusion utilizes Elan’s own Waveflex technology in this flagship carving stick. Mainly geared toward shredding the groomers, a wide body keeps it afloat when you do find yourself deep in the white stuff.

Fischer RX 8 Fire ($1,249 with bindings)

155, 160, 165, 170, 175 (116/65/98 at 165 cm, 13-metre radius)

The RX 8 Fire promises the smoothest ride possible. Its sidecut and waist make tight, nimble turns easy.

G3 Ticket ($774.95)

174, 182 (120/81/109, radius N/A)

Wide, snappy and responsive, the Ticket has an asymmetric design to keep the uphill ski edging more effectively. This is for aggressive skiers looking to get out in all conditions.

Head Xenon 9.0 ($1,074 with bindings)

149, 156, 163, 170, 177 (127/75/112 at 170 cm, 12.8-metre radius)

Wide with a radical sidecut, the Xenon 9.0 is light and agile, but stable on hardpack, slush or crud.

K2 Apache Crossfire ($1,070 with bindings)

160, 167, 174, 181 (117/70/101 at 174 cm, 16-metre radius)

A fir-aspen core combined with the Titan Metal Laminate construction make this ski a great option for those who love the groomers yet still need to cut up the powder on a good day.

Line Prophet 90 ($600)

165, 172, 179, 186 (125/90/113 at 179 cm, 17.7-metre radius)

This is Line’s go-anywhere, ski-anything, one-quiver tool. Ready for the backcountry or the hill, this ski does it all.

Movement Yaka ($675)

157, 166, 175 (126/75/107 at 157 cm, 13-metre radius)

Touted as the “dream ski,” this stick is designed for 70 per cent on-piste and 30 per cent off. This ski offers a shorter turning radius than Movement’s other skis.

Nordica Modified ($1,149.95 with bindings)

154, 162, 170, 178 (119/74/104 at 170 cm, 16-metre radius)

Expert all-mountain skiers can use the Modified to cruise the hardpack at all speeds, yet still feel completely comfortable with an occasional trip into the crud or powder.

Rossignol Zenith Z11 Mutix ($1,350 with bindings)

154, 162, 170, 176 (128/76/106 at 170 cm, 14.9-metre radius)

Designed for skiers that want to go fast on a truly all-terrain ski. Includes an extra set of tool-free replaceable front and rear arms to totally customize your ski for the day’s conditions.

Salomon X Wing Tornado ($1,179 with bindings)

154, 162, 170, 178 (124/75/107 at 170 cm, 14.5-metre radius)

The Tornado features a wide chassis for stability in all conditions and an over-shaped sidecut to help slice GS turns into the corduroy.

Scott Mission ($749.95)

168, 178, 183 (128/89/115 at 178 cm, 14.7-metre radius)

The Mission’s laminate top and bottom sheet are slightly more forgiving than a traditional sandwich sidewall construction but just as responsive. This is the do-it-all, one-quiver ski.

Vist Squadra ($1,725 with bindings)

166, 174 (116/66/101 at 166 cm, 14.2-metre radius)

Vist’s all-mountain carving ski, the Squadra features a sandwich titanal wood construction with the Speedlock TT plate system. The ski comes with Vist’s V4 12 binding.

Volkl Tiger Shark 10 Foot Power Switch ($1,650 with bindings)

161, 168, 175, 182 (121/73/105 at 175 cm, 15.8-metre radius)

The most interesting addition to Volkl’s line this year, the Tiger Shark incorporates a set of carbon-fibre rods that can be tuned to regulate the ski’s flex pattern. It also comes with a snazzy new chrome topsheet.
