Australia’s Anna Segal prevailed as much over demanding conditions as she did over her peers invited to compete in the first ever women’s ski slopestyle event at X-Games. Wet, heavy snow combined with fog to make a challenging slopestyle course that much more difficult for the world’s best.

“My strategy was to pop as hard as I could and keep as much speed as possible," an excited Segal said following her winning first run. She managed to complete a Lincoln Loop, a couple of big 3s and a 540 to outpoint American Grete Eliassen. Canadian Kaya Turski, a pre-event favourite followed in third. "The weather was crazy," Turski said. "I had to switch my whole line. Next year I am hoping for better than bronze."

Conditions took their toll on top Canadians Sarah Burke, fresh off her Superpipe win, and Kim Lamarre, Both went down hard as a result of the heavy snow compromising their jump landings. The X-Games Men’s Slopestyle Finals take place tomorrow.
