SAT & SUN, FEB 6 & 7 STARTING AT HIGH NOON
Last year's inaugural Wrangle the Chute event attracted powder cowboys from far and wide. The round-up proved they can ride our mountain with style, but how about our bucking bronco? Wrangle the Chute combines three great elements: steep chute skiing / boarding, terrain park tricks, and riding our bucking bronco. There's nothing old school about this winter triathlon. It tests the skills of every cowpoke who accepts the challenge. Athletes choose the line they want to ski and the tricks they want to attempt. At the bottom of the course lurks a monster terrain-park jump, but it doesn’t end there. After quickly ditching their boards, racers finish off by mounting a bucking bronco suspended from giant bungee cords. A wild ride is guaranteed because other competitors yank on the bungees to control the bronco's bucking style. The Heaven’s Door yurt in Crystal Bowl is the best place to catch all the action. Mosey over for a burger and beer and to watch the free-ride showdown. The MC will keep things rolling, a DJ will be spinning tunes, and the BBQ will be smoking with mouth-watering western grub.
Guests are encouraged to join in the fun by sporting cowboy hats, chaps, storm riders, and other western garb. Yee-haw!
TEXAS HOLD'EM POKER CONTEST Place your bet pardner. As part of our Wrangle the Chute weekend, the Big Mountain Centre will host the annual Texas Hold'em Poker contest at the Day Lodge. The doors open at 6pm and the cost of entry is just $5. All weekend long, the Big Mountain Centre will also be conducting some great pro camps for you to improve your riding skills (on snow, that is, not the bronco).
FROZEN FRAME PHOTO CONTEST Capture the best Wrangle the Chute opening day image in our Frozen Frame photo contest. From big air, to dropping cliffs, to riding the bucking bronco, there's plenty of subject matter to choose from. A selection of images from competing photographers will be exhibited in the Day Lodge upper level on Saturday evening as part of the Texas Hold'em festivities. The winning photograph will be chosen by audience participation.
