Ian Cosco and Yuki Tsubota Win The Canadian Shield at Mt Seymour

Feb 22, 2012

The day following one of the largest snowfalls Mt Seymour has seen in years, skiers took to the slopestyle course for the second stop of the Canadian Shield Slopestyle Tour.  The contest format was slightly tweaked due to the addition of the snowboard contest in the morning, so skiers were each given three contest runs, the best of which would count.

The pro men’s division was the largest field of the day with over 40 competitors vying for a share of the $10,000 cash purse.  Coming off a second place finish at the Mont Tremblant stop of the tour, Ian Cosco stepped up his game to capture the win at Mt. Seymour.  His first place run consisted of a 270 Disaster to right side corked 9 nose, finished with a left side switch 720.  Ian’s win not only earned him $5000, it has also put him well ahead of the field in the overall tour standings. Jonas Hjohlman took second place with his run that included a backside 450 off the close out rail, to switch 1080 tail, into a switch right side 720 mute.  Rounding off the podium in third was Jordan Innes, who’s run consisted of a 450 on to the rail feature, to a left side 720 into a corked 900 tail.  The SBC SKIER Standout Trick award went to Ahren Stein, who wasn’t able to put down a podium run but was able to throw down a huge switch misty 1080 to earn him some cash and tour points.

Yuki Tsubota, who led the field throughout day, once again dominated the pro women’s division.  Not only did she capture first place and $2000, she also took home the SBC SKIER Women’s Standout Trick award for the corked 720 mute she put down in her winning run.  Yuki is currently leading the tour standings thanks to her win at Mont Tremblant two weeks ago and her win this past weekend at Mt Seymour. If she podiums at either of the two remaining tour stops she will guarantee herself the overall tour title. Yuki was joined on the podium by Emmanuelle Blanchet in second and Ashleigh Low in third.
